This is the
centre of Erlangen's Bergkirchweih. From 1718 to
1975 Erichbier (Erich beer) was brewed in
the brewery at Altstädter Kirchplatz (today the social
institution Dreycedern). The cellar pavilion is still the
original building from the brewery's foundation years.
Ever since the brewery was taken over and closed down by
Patrizier Bräu AG the beer poured at the Erich Keller
has come from breweries in Fürth or Nürnberg. Every
year on the final evening at 11 p.m. the whole area is
drowned in a flood of handkerchiefs when a parade of sad
people mourn the end of the Bergkirchweih and and
symbolically buries the last beer barrel. |
