The Birkner's Keller
From 1895 on Emil
Birkner had been the keeper of a tavern on the grounds of
the former Hertlein brewery ( Engelstraße 15, closed
down in the 1880's). In 1919 his widow sold the cellar to
the Corps Guesphalia, who then in the following years
built their new domicile as an extension to the old
cellar pavilion.Since
1983 the cellar and its garden has been opened to public
again for the time of the Bergkirchweih. At the
very beginning the success was not quite as expected:
nobody wanted to drink the beer poured there which comes
from a brewery from Regensburg.
